Nature Reserve Platte Lindenberg

In the nature reserves Platte Lindenberg and Vossenberg the steep edge of the Kempen Plateau cuts through the landscape from north to south.

Platte Lindenberg Nature Reserve

A good century ago large parts were forested with pines for the mining industry. In open areas you can still find the typical heath vegetation, such as common heather, which used to grow extensively, adding colour to the region. As you wander through the woods, it feels like you are in the mountains, partly thanks to the rise of the Kempen Plateau a long time ago. Limburgs Landschap vzw cares for this area and aims to gradually turn the pine forests into natural deciduous woodlands and heath. Across the Vossenberg lies the old railway line from Maaseik to Hasselt, now part of the cycling network. From various points along this cycle path you can spot the steep edge of the Kempen Plateau.
